Washington's Toes
George Washington
Washburn-Fair Oaks Park, 24th Street and Stevens Ave.
I like the way George's toes extend out over the base of the statue.

This is a copy of a statue by Jean Antoine Houdon at the Virginia State Capitol. It was a gift to the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board at the bicentennial of Washington's birth, 1931.

Former entrance to Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) on 24th Street (yes, I know it's slanting--it was more interesting that way).

Norske Lutherske Mindekirken
I asked a guy passing by if this is still a working church. He replied, "I don't know. I go to a mosque."
Indeed, the Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church, at 924 E. 21st Street (Philips) is still a working church (since 1922). Its web site says, "Mindekirken has ... a reputation for its music programs, including The Leiv Eriksson Festival, which features Norwegian artists working in a variety of media, particularly music. (Each October)"
So, come back in October!

How Will We get Both Balls Down?
Photo: Esther Perry
The football got stuck in the tree, so they tossed up the basketball - to knock out the football. You know what happened. Erin got out the lightbulb changing pole and saved the game.

Secret Path
This path was beaten by folks going from Stevens Ave. S. up to the 35W highway overpass at Lake Street. I came across it when I took my bike on an express bus I caught up there.

(I keep meaning to stick up a new photo of Paul Wellstone in place of this badly weather-beaten one, in the center. If you've got one...)
